Land Workshop: Metes and Bounds Survey System

Early lands in what would become the United States was surveyed according to an old survey system commonly known as “metes and bounds.” This is a narrative-style system found in early colonial states and is based on landmarks and property lines. Using a measurement system of length and angles, irregular property shapes were formed.

This 2-hour workshop is designed to give participants hands-on practice understanding and drawing land descriptions found in the State Land States which used the “metes and bounds” survey system.
