Evidence Explained 4th Edition Study Group

This five-week study group will cover the first three chapters of Evidence Explained 4th Ed. by Elizabeth Shown Mills. The schedule and instructors will be:

NGSQ 2026 Study Groups

This is a once-per-month study group that will study one National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ) journal article per month as posted on the website NGSQ Study Groups. We will study these articles with a focus on principles taught in Mastering Genealogical Proof (MGP) by Tom Jones. We will discuss topics on the genealogy standards, evidence analysis and correlation, writing, citations, and more. Mastering Genealogical Proof

Seven-Week Beginning Principles Course – There will be one session, Saturdays at 5pm Eastern (so adjust for your time zone). Each class will be about an hour. This is for those who have never studied this book before. We will be studying this from a beginner or slightly intermediate level. If you’ve done one of these groups before and want a refresher, that’s ok too! Space is limited to 25 students.

  • February 11, 2026 – March 25, 2026 – Wednesdays, 3pm Pacific/6pm Eastern – Cyndi

Mastering Genealogical Documentation

Seven-Week Beginning Principles Course (with optional 8th week) – There will be two sessions: Wednesday daytime at 3 pm Eastern and Saturday at 5 pm Eastern (so adjust for your time zone). Each class will be about an hour. This is for those who have never studied this book before. We will be studying this from a beginner or slightly intermediate level. It is recommended that you have studied the book Mastering Genealogical Proof, but not a requirement for taking this class. If you’ve done one of these groups before and want a refresher, that’s ok too! We will take 25 students in each class.

  • September 9, 2026 – October 28, 2026 – Wednesdays, 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern – Cyndi

Writer’s Workshop

We are retiring this group. We highly recommend Kimberly Powell’s “Writing For Discovery” course. Kimberly does an excellent job in this course discussing writing pitfalls and solutions, and there is a peer review component. See her website for the schedule.
